Privacy Policy for UseLingo

Welcome to UseLingo ("UseLingo," "we," "us," or "our"), a Chrome browser extension provided by Beijing Tingxian Technology Co., Ltd. ("北京听鲜科技有限公司"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the UseLingo Chrome Extension and related web services. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not install or use UseLingo.

• Website context: the URL and page title where a word or phrase was collected, so that the saved vocabulary item can retain learning context.
• Technical data: browser type, extension version, operating system, feature usage patterns, error logs, and performance information used to maintain and improve the service.
• AI interaction data: text submitted for translation or language analysis, generated translations and explanations, and your interactions with AI-generated content.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide contextual translation, vocabulary saving, review, and spaced repetition features.
• Synchronize learning data across your devices when you sign in.
• Generate AI-powered translations, explanations, and language learning recommendations.
• Maintain account security, troubleshoot errors, and provide customer support.
• Analyze aggregated or anonymized usage patterns to improve quality, reliability, and user experience.
• Comply with applicable laws, protect our rights, and prevent misuse of the service.

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

• AI translation and language services: text you request to translate or analyze may be sent to OpenAI-compatible language model APIs or similar service providers for processing.
• Authentication providers: Google OAuth may be used for secure sign-in.
• Cloud infrastructure: account and learning data may be processed by our hosting, database, and infrastructure providers so we can provide synchronization and storage features.
• Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or when necessary to protect rights, safety, property, and service integrity.
• Business transfers: user information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards.
• Consent: we may share information for other purposes with your explicit consent.

4. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections, secure authentication, access controls, monitoring, backups, and least-privilege handling where practical. No internet transmission or electronic storage method is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account data while your account is active, learning data as needed to provide vocabulary and review features, anonymized analytics for service improvement, and support communications as needed for customer service and legal compliance. You may request deletion of your personal data by contacting us. Upon account deletion, personal information will be deleted or anonymized unless retention is required by law.
